holiday wishes

today we put away christmas.....we took down the tree, found homes for the last few new toys strewn on the floor, and took down the decorations. normally, i am glad to get my house back. but this year, i felt a little sad that it was all over. christmas is so exciting for the kids, and as my girls are getting older, i don't know that i have so many left with that high a level of enthusiasm.

so after all the work was done with putting all that stuff away, i thought it would be good to download the pics i took on christmas eve of the kids opening some of their gifts from my mom and dad. i didn't photograph our actual christmas morning, but i captured these treasures on christmas eve. and after looking at them today, boy am i glad i did:

this first photo was quite torturous for them. i made them sit amongst all these gifts so i could take their photo, and all they really wanted to do was rip into them!

"yay! Lets start!!!"

oh the joy!

such happiness!

how can you not love this?

from our family to yours.....have a safe and happy new year!

Holiday Rush

It has been insanely busy here at KM Photography, which is why I haven't blogged in a while. I have been up to my eyeballs in editing, and haven't had a weekend to myself in who knows how long. But its okay because I know pretty soon, there will be smiles on the faces of many who start receiving holiday cards of some really cute kids photographed by yours truly. And on Christmas, smiles a plenty when moms, grandmoms, aunties and more receive beautiful photos of their loved ones. And if you are reading this thinking, "oh no, I didn't get my photo session done in time for the holidays!!" I have this to say:

It's ok. You don't need a holiday to book a session. That's the beauty of photos. You can take them whenever. And people love to receive them anytime, not just during special occasions.

And....just because you may not have photographs to give as a gift, a gift card from KM Photography is a great way to go. Wouldn't mom/grandma/or insert other name here be so excited to know that she can have a family portrait done at the time of her choosing????

I hope you all enjoy the next few weeks of holiday shopping and planning. It's easy to get stressed and caught up in the hectic bustle. But I'm going to try to enjoy it, and I hope you all do. And because blogs are so much better with a photo:

a little holiday tip: photo taken at Bass Pro Shops in Foxboro, where not only do they give you a free photo with santa, but their packages won't break the bank. Or, even better, they let you take your own photo like I did. How awesome is that?????

holiday out-takes

i took some time the other day to take my own kids holiday portraits. my girls are so used to being in front of the lens that usually, it goes pretty smoothly. but not this time my friend. i will admit that there may have been a bit of um..... talking loudly (some people would call it yelling) and maybe even a few stray tears. but once we got the wardrobe issues resolved, we got on a roll. or so i thought. apparently, the kids were unaware that i may ask them to touch. or hug. or smile. so, because i am a genius behind the lens, i was still able to capture some fantastic shots. to see those, you will have to wait for the holiday card. but the out-takes.....well those are so classic i just have to share.

now, don't let this first one trick you. yes, they are smiling. yes, they look pretty cute. but lets ask the important question. "why are their hands up?" well, there is a simple answer. they were actually hitting each other. yup. so cute. (eye-roll)

and this next series, shows how madison is not too fond of the hugging.

and whats a portrait session without sticking your tongue out at your mother?

it was one very trying experience. and i didn't think this would be the case at the beginning of this whole day, but through the sweat and tears i think i got myself some shots of the girls that i will forever treasure. even the out-takes.

Hope

to say i have been busy lately would be an understatement. i had 4 portrait sessions this past weekend alone. but i really enjoy what i do beyond words, so i don't mind at all. and the best part is i meet and get to work with great people. and this weekend was no exception. i photographed some wonderful families and super kids. and i have to say, all the kids i have photographed recently were truly fantastic, and one in particular found a way to capture a little piece of my heart. her name is hope. within minutes of meeting her, she was chatting it up with me like we had been long-time friends. and within 10 minutes, i found myself telling her i just wanted to spend the whole day with her. hope's response? "yes!! go pick up your girls and we can all play together!!!" she is bubbly and warm and charming. she's definitely one of those girls that when she flashes you her smile, you just can't help but adore her. thanks to hope and her mom for letting me photograph you guys...it was so much fun!!!!

be kind!

So the kids went back to school last month, and it is my first year ever that both kids are in school ALL day. You would think that would give me loads of time on my hands, but my days go by faster now then they ever have. We have all been feeling a little overwhelmed by our new schedule. It's easy to get caught up in all the things that need to be done during the day, that sometimes just acknowledging each other can be forgotten. In the spirit of trying to be kind to each other and take the time to say the positive things we SHOULD be saying, I came up with a great idea.

so here it is:
it's great right? Wait, you can't tell from the pic what it is??? Ok, how about this one?

still no? Ok, I'll lay it out for ya.

it's a kindness jar!!!! what we do is write down anything positive about one another and put it in the jar. the kids love doing it, and it is fun to go thru and read what is written on there.
for instance, some of the cute ones:

i wish i could say that it has created complete harmony in my house, but alas as i am typing i've got one daughter yelling and one crying. but you gotta give me an A for effort.

just chillin'

I had a very busy weekend, and have another very busy week and even crazier weekend ahead of me. so today, i let the laundry sit in the baskets, the toys stay strewn across the floor, and i haven't cooked a meal. (thank goodness for tgi fridays!) the kids did craft projects and i watched as they reveled in the joy that exudes from large lollipops. it was a good day.

now that my day of dilly-dallying is over, i am ready. bring on the craziness. :)
